Rescue Rex

Helping Impounded Animals in NSW to find New Homes or Rescue.

Welcome to Rescue Rex!

The animals on this site are ALL in URGENT need of help, as they are impounds in New South Wales (Metropolitan and Regional) Pounds.

Under the NSW Companion Animal Act Impounded Dogs are to be held until reclaimed by owners or purchased from pound.

Animals which are
Unidentified/Not Microchipped are held for 7 days
Microchipped Dogs are held for 14 days

If you have a Purebreed dog and can't keep it any longer...             DONT DUMP it in a Pound

  1. You should contact the breeder from which you bought the dog  and give them the option of taking their dog back (responsible breeders will always care about the dogs that they bred), or if in another state, help with avenues to rehome.
  2. Contact a Breed Rescue closest to you, and offer to surrender the dog, with papers to them.  They are aware of their breed, and may have people looking for a dog just like yours!
  3. Contact a Recognised Rescue Organisation in your area, to see if they are able to help.  As Rescue Organisations generally rescue animals off 'death row', places in care can be minimal, however, they may be able to suggest or know of someone who MAY be able to help you with your dog.

If you are looking for a dog,

  • please consider rescuing your new pet from a pound or Rescue Organisation.  Too many good dogs are being killed because of 'convenience'
  • Breed Rescue, pups are rarely in care and adults can range from teenagers to mature dogs... all worthy of a second chance.

Can you help??

Do you think you are able to help in your area??
Please contact me so we can discuss it

Rescue Rex's main Aims and Objectives

Rescue Rex's Main Aims and Objectives are

  • to have a central place for listing the many council websites for impounded animals being held in NSW Council pounds, which in effect, makes it easier for the general public to find and adopt a new pet
  • to educate the general public in how to look for a new pet or if unable to keep their pet
  • to help more NSW council pounds to realise that with a bit of exposure of their impounded animals, there is an alternative to putting to sleep the majority of dogs which are unlucky enough to find themselves unwanted and on 'death row'.
  • to make a central place for breed rescues and groups to list in order to help keep animals (irrespective of their heritage), out of pounds and shelters and rehoused correctly into new homes.

This site was started on the old MSN Groups on the
30 November, 2005!
RescueRex was given its own website in January 2009.
